Ezine Article February 2010 Want clients to have a great life! Rule #1 for Attracting Clients: If you want to be a great coach with a full practice live an extraordinary life! Many coaches believe that they will have a great life when they create a thriving successful coaching business. What they don't understand is they may have it backwards. What we have noticed with our clients is when we step into the life that we want as coaches; our clients are attracted to the energy that we exude. That does not mean that you have to have everything in your life handled perfectly. What it does mean is that each day you are living a life that truly expresses what is most important to you. For us, we know that a life of full presence, of being of service, connection, community, love and abundance is very important. It is what has our lives feel alive and worth living. To that end with each choice we make, we look to see if that choice is in alignment with what matters most. When we look to design our days, weeks and our lives at large we look to see if those things are being honored. What happens is we radiate with confidence and aliveness because we are at choice for how our lives are. That shows and clients want that for themselves and want a coach that can believe in that for themselves. So, what is the life that you want to design? And if you already know what that life is are you living into it? Are you making the choices that would have you live the life you want?? If not, you may not be attracting the clients you want. So what can you shift to move towards that life that you want? And remember it is not about perfection. It is about progress and taking steps toward the life you want. It is about being your word to yourself and about creating the life you want!! Life is short so get to it!! Your life and your clients are waiting for you!! Ezine Article January '09 When the Going Gets Tough How to Keep Building Your Coaching Business Through Difficult Times Well, it's a new year! With a new year come new dreams, renewed dreams and a renewed resolve to make dreams come true. And with this New Year particularly there is also lots of talk about "tough times" in the world. And I also know that as we step onto the path of creating what we want, like a thriving coaching business, we can also face inner difficulty. But tough times are tough times. Whether you are suffering a health set back, in a bad mood or worried about your financial future, it can be difficult. Difficulty can derail you from doing what you need to do to create a thriving coaching business. Below is a list of successful strategies for getting you back on track towards having what you dream realized and achieving the coaching business that you desire. Five Things to Do When Things Get Tough...
What is Your Intention? Intention is a word that is getting thrown around a lot lately. But what does it really mean and what does it have to do with having a thriving business? Webster's says that intention is determination to act in a specific way. Does your determination to be successful or to have a particular outcome make a difference in your outcome? Here are three exercises that will test your intention. Exercise 1 - Unconscious Intention Think about prospecting to get a new clientwhat comes up as you think about going to a networking event or calling someone you know for referrals? Do you feel excited and curious to see how you will create a new client? Or do you feel resistant and scared to engage and ask for the business? If you answer that you feel resistant and scared journal about how you think that will serve you getting clients. What you are uncovering in this exercise is what may possibly be your unconscious intention. How do you think it is serving you in your business building? Exercise 2 - Conscious Intention I did an informal study where we had two groups of people making phone calls. Both were given a total of 25 prospecting phone calls to make. One group was told that as they made their phone calls they were to make each phone call with the idea that this call would be their next client. The other group just made their calls as they usually did. The group that approached each call as if each call was going to be their new client got twice as many clients as those that did business as usual. So, try this exercise yourself. The next business building event you do, before you engage, set your intention. If you are going to a networking event decide what you want out of it. Maybe it is to get three sample sessions out of the time you spend there. Maybe it is to meet the CEO of the company that you want to work with. Do lose your intention as you walk into the room and see what happens. Exercise 3 - Intention and the power of two Spend some time and make a list of your short term and long term intentions. An example of a long term intention would be to be able to retire and have passive income from the product you have created through your coaching business. An example of a short term intention might be to get three sample sessions from the networking event you are attending this evening. Take some time and write out what you want to intend for your business. This does not have to be an exhaustive list, just start with a few of each. Now find a person that you know and trust...someone who you know is in your corner...maybe your coach or a trusted peer and share your intention list with them. What happens when you share them? Do you notice that they get more real? Does your critic come in and try to make them seem foolish? Now ask that person to intend with you....like an intention teammate. You can even ask them what intentions you can keep in your mind for them. Notice what you feel and what thoughts come up as you allow the experience of having some one holding your intention with you. What we know is as you become more clear and conscious about your intentions the more you will be able to realize them. Your thinking affects reality and the way reality unfolds so get clear about how YOU want to unfold the reality of your thriving business! The Market Is Just The MarketRecession Proof Thinking How does our intention effect what happens in our business? I remember how depressed the market was back in the 1990s when I sold Real Estate. People where losing their houses because they could not sell them for more than they owed on their mortgages. Short Sales, foreclosures and loss of equity were common conversations among my friends, family and on the news. Does this sound familiar? I remember that the president of the company that I worked for would have monthly meetings. He would stand on stage and say to us, "The market is just the market and we will be the preeminent real estate sales company. That is where we are going. We are not going any place else!" We used to giggle that he would always say the same thing every meeting. But when I would get back to the office, his words would ring in my ears as I would pick up the phone and prospect for clients. And what I found is that what he said was true! When I showed up to prospect and kept looking for clients regardless of what I heard in the news, I would find clients. Yes, there were people that were struggling and could not sell, but there were always people that wanted to and could sell. I believed in his axiom "the market is just the market" and I ended up being one of the top producing sales people for the company. What do you believe? Do you have recession-proof thinking? Do you believe that we are going into a depression and no one will buy your coaching services? Do you believe that coaching is a discretionary line item on the budget therefore no one will pay for it? That will not help you build your business. It is time to start recession-proofing your thinking. How can you embrace the perspective of what is happening in our world as an OPPORTUNITY? Things are shifting, priorities are rearranging and people are looking at what they really want. That sounds like a prime time to hire a coach! Yes, for some there is fear about money. There are also many people that are seeing the opportunity to make a change. How can you get in front of them and ask them to be your client? It is time for you to step into the opportunity and excitement of this time! Go find the clients that are ready to make this time a time of change and opportunity! Remember the market IS just the market!! |
